The Autumn Budget 2024 announced by the Labour government has captured widespread attention, as it presents a series of changes focused on reshaping the economic landscape. Key Highlights of the Autumn Budget 2024
Personal Tax
The Lower Earnings Limit and the Small Profits Threshold for National Insurance contributions have been increased to £6,500 and £6,845 per annum respectively.
Class 2 and Class 3 National Insurance rates have been increased to £3.50 and £17.75 per week respectively.
The non-domicile scheme will be abolished from 6th April 2025.
Capital Gains Tax
The lower rate of Capital Gains Tax has been increased to 18% and the higher rate to 24% for disposals of non-residential assets.
The rate of Business Asset Disposal Relief will increase to 14% from 6th April 2025 and 18% from 6th April 2026.
Employer Tax
Employers National Insurance will be increased to 15% from 6th April 2025, with the earnings threshold reducing to £5,000.
The Employment Allowance will be increased to £10,500, with the £100,000 threshold being removed.
National Living Wage will increase to £12.21 per hour for eligible employees, and £10 per hour for eligible 18-20 year olds.
Inheritance Tax
Unused pension funds and death benefits will be brought into a person's estate from 6th April 2027.
Reforms have been made to Agricultural Property Relief, with the first £1 million of combined eligible agricultural and business assets attracting 100% relief from April 2026, and excess assets attracting 50% relief.
